Sheila got me a great book for Christmas and I am over half way through it. The book is Brew to Bikes: Portland's Artisan Economy by Charles Heying. It's written by a Portland State University professor and nearly 15 colleagues that go in depth on how the City has benefited from the growth of industries associated with handmade or carefully crafted products. The chapters include coffee, food, beer, bikes, zines, among others and I have enjoyed it thus far. The author describes Fordism and Post-Fordism which highlights the contrast of mass produced versus more handmade goods.
